The White Wilderness Mountains contains almost 50,000 acres within the Lincoln National Forest with direct access from Alto Hombre Gordito Resort. So you don't need a car to get there. You are there!

As with all wilderness areas, access is allowed by foot or horseback only. Elevations within the Wilderness range from 6,500 feet at the Three Rivers Campground to 11,580 feet near Lookout Mountain on the ridge. In the winter the higher elevations may be under 6 feet or more of snow. In the summer, a sweater or jacket may be needed. Afternoons are usually pleasant.

Horses are available at Bonito Stables in Bonito Canyon just a few miles down the road. The area is beautiful and perfect for the occasional or novice rider. While this is an individual activity, groups may be accommodated on request.

Fort Stanton Cave is a 10 miles wilderness cave. You can visit the cave under guidance of the Bureau of Land Management of New Mexico. The rocky formation date back hundreds of years. Don't be afraid for bats !!

Indian Heritage - New Mexico is the homeland of "The People". More than twenty millennia past, Indians have made their homes in New Mexico. They adapted nature and created diverse tribes, each with its own lifestyle, language, religion and customs.

New Mexico is home to the Anasazi, Tyuonyi, Tsankawi, Zuni, Mongollon, Pecos, Navajo, Apache, Taos, Acoma and Zuni Indians.
The Apaches came originally from Canada 500 years ago. The Mescalero Apaches are located near Ruidoso.

The Apache People honor ancient traditions. Rites and powwows are held annually. The Apache People treasure their unspoiled lands and nourish their ancient culture as can be seen in their basket weaving and treasured rituals.

In the Southwest, the past is just yesterday and history is all around. Nowhere in our great country is there a people more capable of expressing through their songs, dances, arts and crafts the beauty of nature, the mystery of life than The People.

Check out our video corner. We have movies on Geronimo, Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp.

The Links at Sierra Blanca was designed in the Scottish links style by Senior Tour player Jim Colbert. This golf course is the premiere public course in southern New Mexico. In 1995 it was rated the 7th best course in New Mexico and awarded 3 1/2 stars. Its rolling fairways flanked by thick mounds, rewards accurate tee shots. Large undulating greens and diverse layout of holes makes for an interesting round as the risk-reward features tempt the gambling nature in all of us. Public, 18 holes, 6757 yards, slope 105, rating 63.0 off forward tees.

Cree Meadows is the area's oldest course with an unparalleled view of the Sacramento Mountains. Short but immaculately groomed, it's a demanding course. Tight fairways and small greens call for accurate shot making and a strong putter. Public, 18 holes, 5766 year, rating 66.4, slope 104.

Inn of the Mountain Gods is a mountain course in one of the most spectacular settings you will ever find. Designed by Ted Robinson, this championship course boasts an island fairway. Backed by the majestic Sierra Blanca, it has often been ranked #1 in the state as well as in the top 25 nationally. Public Resort, 18 holes, 6834 years, rating 70.2, slope 128.

Hiking, Mountain Biking and Horseback Riding Trails start directly at Alto Hombre Gordito. If you're into the hills, chills and thrills plus relatively untapped trails and incredible beauty of the Southern Rockies, then come to the Sacramento Mountains.

South Western Cooking is a blend of Indian, Spanish, French, The Orient, Near East and Mediterranean influences. This variety stems from Mexican history and her conquerors.

The Spaniards brought with them cattle, chickens, olives, rice, wheat, cinnamon and other spices.

French cooking was transformed with Mexican and Spanish cooking.

Each region in Mexico offers its own specialties, and more often than not, one regional dish will have nothing in common with another regional dish.

What else is there to enjoy ?
